The Angry Dwarfs

Don't make the dwarf angry (even if he doesn't look like a dwarf)

New UI in action

Posted by Saithir On February - 14 - 2009

As I wrote few days ago, I’ve redone my UI on Wednesday. On the last raid I finally remembered to get some screenshots of that, but only one is good enough to show off. I’m pretty sure that nobody would want to see screenshots of me dead, so I had to choose one that isn’t taken in combat. Oh, and you can find a detailed list of addons after the “read more” break.

Before Patchwerk

I’m pretty satisfied by the looks of the UI so far – it has everything that I need to know in a raid, and it still leaves a lot of free space to see what is going on around me. As you can see, I’ve opted not to replace the default unit frames and action bars with a new ones. The main reason for that is the massive fps drop when I was experimenting with them, and to be completely honest, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the defaults, except for the raid frames. The bars are easy to keybind, my target is showing it’s target, and patch 3.0 even added an extra focus frame. And above all that, I don’t have to move the stupid action bars around every time I log on to the new character.

Here you can find a list of the addons on the screenshot. I won’t link to every one of them, as 99% are quite easily found either on CurseWowInterface or installed using an application like WowMatrix, which I prefer.

  • The black letterboxes on top and bottom are done using CBH_Viewport. That doesn’t really do anything other than look cool, though.
  • The panel on the top is NinjaPanel, and the addons on it are: Broker_Loottype, Broker_Currency, Broker_Durability (I really have to replace these two with something else, they’re pretty useless), Broker_Mail and Broker_Recount. Outfitter, Omen and BigWigs come with their own little icons with no additional work.
  • The buffs is SatrinaBuffFrame. I have another one just below for debuffs, and two more frames between the chat and Grid – one for my buffs that I have to watch, and one for debuffs on my current target that I have to watch (like Slice and Dice and Rupture). These two are significantly bigger, so that I don’t have to stare onto the screen to see how much seconds I still have left.
  • The pretty minimap addon is SexyMap.
  • The main tanks frame is Blizzard’s default raid frame – we always set main tanks there, so I just pulled it from the raid interface tab. Same goes for my focus target on one of the tanks.
  • Omen is something I really shouldn’t introduce, right? And I also use Recount, but its window is usually hidden and I only show it when I want to check something.
  • The chat frame is the default frame enhanced with Chatter for some options like timestamps, and Cellular (not shown here) for whispers.
  • The raid frames is Grid, installed and configured mostly for healing on Sheven (so it has random things like ‘you-can-Swiftmend-this indicator ;] ) , but I keep it enabled anyway. I’ve even went a step ahead and disabled the default party frames with PartyPooper.
  • There are also two large casting bars on both sides of my character, one for me and one for my target. This is done by eCastingBar.
  • Another thing not shown on the screenshot is ErrorMonster, which redirects the annoying error messages (“can’t cast that yet”, “out of range” and stuff) to the chat frame, so that they won’t clutter my screen. It could be a bit more configurable and let me choose which chat tab I want them to appear, though… I have a third tab called ‘Messages’ specifically for random spam from Auctioneer, and this would fit in nicely.

That’s almost all my addons. Apart from that I use BaudBag for configurable bags and bankspace – while I don’t like the defaults, I also don’t like to have one big bag with everything, ’cause I would never find anything that way. RatingBuster shows me the stats on items (you can see it in action on BRK’s site in every other post), and of course Auctioneer is not an option if you want to do some AH trading. Oh, and I have Proximo as well, since the evil people made me do Arenas. :]
