Words of Warcraft

I think that everyone knows how dull and repetetive Warcraft can be. Of course, I’m talking about farming stuff – you fly around looking at your minimap, pick a herb, fly to another, and another… I would probably lose my mind (or whatever is left of it)  if I did it for too long. So, since I like my mind as it is, I listen to WoW podcasts while doing that. Here’s a short list and a bit of reviews of what I’m used to listen to.

The “reviews” aren’t of course the best and by no means complete or objective – I hope you didn’t expect anything other. ;)

The WoW Insider Show

The WoW Insider ShowThe very first WoW podcast that I’ve listened to, and one of the better ones – good enough for me to go back through the archives back to the first one.

It’s run by the bloggers of WoW Insider, so it’s good to be able to associate posts on the site with real voices. They talk about general Warcraft stuff, interesting posts from WI, and sometimes have some guests that aren’t their bloggers (like Phaelia or Felicia Day). If I remember correctly, that was also the first place that I’ve heard Big Red Kitty and the Big Bear Butt Blogger, which both are my favourite podcasters – along with the usual show’s host Mike Schramm and the Turpster. Getting the four of them together is a guarantee of an absolutely awesome show.

The podcast is going live every week on Saturdays evening, and you can participate in the chat on their Ustream page – which I have to say I don’t like at all. Before they were hosted on the WCRadio site, which just has a better player and archive system. If you prefer mp3s or simpler players, you can always wait for Monday when they’re posted in iTunes and on the WoW Insider site.

The Instance

The InstanceAnother general Warcraft podcast. Unfortunately I don’t have that much to say about it, as I’ve only listened to three or four episodes so far. I have to admit that I’ve liked it – seems like a good companion for the WoW Insider Show, since both talk about similar topics, and it’s always nice to hear some more opinions on all things Warcraft.

They also feature some tips about addons and PvP, which are nice additions and a good source of finding new, potentially interesting things.

Twisted Nether Blogcast

Twisted Nether BlogcastI have to say that I just discovered it again few weeks ago. My first encounter with the blogcast was when I was doing my Shattered Sun dailies – I’ve read some post about the new podcast, and was out of things to listen to, so I went to check it out. Well, I have to say that I didn’t find it very appealing (probably because it was the first episode), so I’ve just skipped it. Lately I saw another blog post about it – I think it was BRK saying that he will be on the blogcast. Since I like listening to him, I did listen to the TNB episode, and I was very positively surprised that it wasn’t as bad as I remembered.

It’s a bit different podcast from the others, as it focuses on interviews with Warcraft bloggers rather than on general news, which is a nice idea – as I wrote before, listening to people you like to read is awesome. I especially liked episode 30, with the Squeaky Priestie of Married IRL – though I don’t follow their blog closely, listening to her was very fun and entertaining. I liked that happy and energetic voice.

BRK podcast

While I don’t listen to this one much these days (as my hunter is in a state of level 70 coma in Shattrath), it’s an awesome source of knowledge about hunters. Helpful even if I don’t play a hunter currently. And of course it’s hosted by BRK, which is a huge plus if you like listening to the guy. I do. :) You can find it on BRK’s site in the sidebar, and in the archives as well.

How I WoW

Another podcast that focuses on the interviews – only this time it’s not only the bloggers. I what I’ve heard, and it’s really a shame that it doesn’t have more episodes and more regular updates.

PUG

PUG is the podcast that replaced the WoW Insider Show when they left WC Radio. It’s a mix of comedy, general news and interviews – at least it was in the first four episodes. Since that there have been a few more episodes, but for whatever reasons they aren’t included in the archives on the site. I don’t really care about reasons or excuses for that (and I’ve seen some on their forums) – almost two months of gap between the live shows and the archives is just an epic FAIL.

And since I usually can’t listen to neither PUG or WI Show live, I’m including it here only for completeness. And WoW Insider Show archives.
